Sara Ciuffetta's Marble Helmet and Shoes in Performance Art

artist · 2026-04-27

Sara Ciuffetta, an Italian artist born in 1985 in Sora, engages in various artistic disciplines, including painting, photography, sculpture, and performance, while residing in Berlin, Rome, and Turin. In 2015, she fashioned a wearable helmet from marble sourced from the Serra River, using it in performances to create a sense of isolation and reconnect with the stone, which later came to represent enforced solitude in the post-pandemic era. Since May 2021, this piece has been showcased as "Ostranenie" at the Biennale Internazionale Donna in Trieste. Additionally, in 2016, she crafted marble shoes for her performances, and in 2019, she documented a journey from her Frosinone studio to Sarzana, capturing the struggles she encounters as a female artist, with the help of Pietro Grossi and Leonardo Morfini.
