Saodat Ismailova awarded 2022 Eye Art & Film Prize with £25,000 grant and solo exhibition
Saodat Ismailova has been awarded the 2022 Eye Art & Film Prize, which comprises a £25,000 grant and a solo exhibition set for winter 2023 at Amsterdam's Eye Filmmuseum. The jury commended her ability to create spiritual environments through her film and video art. Ismailova, born in 1981 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, delves into themes of Central Asian history and cultural identity. Her documentary 'Aral. Fishing in an Invisible Sea' (2004) earned the best picture award at the Turin Film Festival, while '40 Days of Silence' (2014) received a nomination for best debut at the Berlin International Film Festival. Her works are included in 'The Milk of Dreams' at the Venice Biennale and will feature in Documenta 15, which opens on 18 June. Sandra den Hamer chaired the jury.
