São Paulo's Street Art Museum Launches Virtual Reality Platform MAR 360°
The Museu de Arte de Rua de São Paulo (MAR) introduced MAR 360°, a groundbreaking virtual reality platform showcasing more than 70 street murals. Created by the Secretaria Municipal de Cultura, this initiative, which went live in December 2020, is recognized as the first open-air museum in the world utilizing virtual reality. Initially featuring 40 pieces across 110 kilometers, it expanded by adding 30 murals in May 2021. Users can navigate an interactive gray-scale map beginning in Liberdade, accompanied by a soundtrack from Tejo Damasceno. The platform leverages gyroscope technology for a first-person experience on mobile devices, with the option to enhance it using VR headsets. It also offers itineraries for physical visits, promoting urban art, and Hugo Possolo hailed it as a cultural opportunity during quarantine.
