São José da Boavista Church and Parish Center by Matos Gameiro and Atelier Bugio

architecture-design · 2026-04-24

Matos Gameiro Arquitectos and Atelier Bugio have completed the São José da Boavista Church and Parish Center in an undisclosed location. The 400 m² project, finished in 2025, integrates a public plaza defined by an eastward-extending wall that negotiates the site's irregular terrain through setbacks, stairs, and ramps. The wall simultaneously shapes the street-level plaza and organizes upper-floor spaces, housing a significant portion of the program. The team includes lead architects Pedro Matos Gameiro and João Favila Menezes, with structural engineering by PRPC ENGENHEIROS, electrical engineering by OHMSOR, and general contracting by TECNORÉM. Photography is by Alexander Bogorodskiy.
