Santuario del Valinotto Reopens After Restoration in Piedmont

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-05

On May 27, 2017, the Santuario del Valinotto in Carignano, Piedmont, celebrated its reopening following a significant restoration, which was made possible by a €600,000 grant from the Compagnia di San Paolo. Originally commissioned in 1738 by notary Antonio Faccio, the chapel was crafted by architect Bernardo Antonio Vittone and adorned with frescoes by Pier Francesco Guala. The restoration, overseen by architect Agostino Magnaghi and the Consorzio San Luca per la Cultura, l'Arte e il Restauro di Torino, unfolded in two stages: from January 12 to June 2015, and from January 19, 2016, until completion. The reopening included events such as a theater performance on May 27 and a piano concert on June 18, with free guided tours offered on Sundays in June. Starting September 2017, it will feature in an art itinerary highlighting Vittone's creations.
