Santídio Pereira's New York Residency Leads to Paris Exhibition at Fondation Cartier

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Santídio Pereira, a 22-year-old Brazilian artist from Piauí, completed an artistic residency at AnnexB in New York from early February to March. AnnexB, founded in 2016 by Larissa Ferreira with Tatiane Schilaro as creative director, runs a residency program exclusively for Brazilian artists, having previously hosted Dalton de Paulo, Carla Chaim, Nino Cais, and Ivan Grilo. During his stay, Pereira developed new works and conducted a workshop for children at the Lilian Weber School of the Arts in partnership with the Anne Fontaine Foundation. He also met fellow Brazilian artist Moisés Patrício. A resulting exhibition, "Between Two Skies," curated by Schilaro, opened in early March at a b[x] space, featuring six 2016 woodcuts and twelve monotypes created during the residency. Later this year, Pereira will present work in a group exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris from July 9 to November 10. The exhibition's theme is the idea of the tree, and it will include other Brazilian artists like Beatriz Milhazes, Luiz Zerbini, Adriana Varejão, and Véio. Pereira, known for his mastery of woodcut techniques, moved to São Paulo at age eight and studied at Instituto Acaia. He is represented by Galeria Estação, where he had solo shows in 2016 and 2018, and has exhibited at SESC units in São Paulo, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, Centro Cultural São Paulo, and the Pinta fair in Miami.
