Santiago Calatrava to Design £1B Hub in London's Greenwich Peninsula
Spanish starchitect Santiago Calatrava has been commissioned by Asian developer Knight Dragon to design Peninsula Place, a £1 billion urban landmark on London's Greenwich Peninsula. The project is part of an £8.4 billion masterplan to transform the area into a district of 15,720 homes. Peninsula Place will be a 130,000-square-meter multifunctional complex adjacent to the O2 Arena by Sir Richard Rogers. It will feature a 24-meter-high winter garden, a galleria with cafes, shops, and restaurants, a theater, a cinema, a wellness center, and three stepped towers containing offices, a hotel, and 800 residences with green terraces. A sculptural white cable-stayed bridge will connect the galleria to a new park on the Thames. The design includes organic forms with tree-like columns and a glass roof, paying homage to London's architectural heritage and the works of Paxton and Brunel.
