Santander Brasil Collection Debuts at Farol with 70-Year Survey of Brazilian Art

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The exhibition 'Contemporâneo, sempre – Coleção Santander Brasil' opens at Farol Santander in São Paulo, presenting a 70-year panorama of Brazilian art curated by Agnaldo Farias and Ricardo Ribenboim. From over 2,000 works in the collection, 64 pieces were selected across categories of Abstraction, Portrait, and Landscape. Highlights include a previously unexposed 1980 untitled work by Bené Fonteles in Abstraction, the oldest piece being Victor Brecheret's sculpture 'Tocadora de Guitarra' from 1923, and the most recent work, a painting by Paulo Almeida from his 'Palimpsestos' series. Almeida's creative process involves modifying the work for each new exhibition, with the artist completing alterations on-site just days before the public opening. The curatorial selection aims to unite classical and contemporary figures in Brazilian art, transcending temporal definitions. The exhibition runs until January 5, 2020, at Farol Santander, located at Rua João Brícola, 24, Centro, São Paulo.
