Santa Monica Museum of Art Rebrands as Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles with New Downtown Venue

The Santa Monica Museum of Art (SMMoA) will transform into the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in Spring 2017. This institutional rebranding accompanies a relocation to a renovated former garment manufacturing facility in downtown Los Angeles's arts district. Architecture firm wHY is handling the renovation of the 12,700sqft space, which will feature 7,000sqft of exhibition galleries. The new venue will also include an experimental kitchen-café and a retail store. SMMoA closed its previous location at Bergamot Station in 2015. The museum's identity shift and physical move mark a significant institutional evolution for the Los Angeles art scene.
