Santa Maria della Scala in Siena seeks new director
The Comune di Siena has published a call for applications for the director of the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, following the departure of Daniele Pittèri on February 1. The deadline for applications is April 5, 2019, leaving only one month for candidates to apply. The position is a three-year contract, renewable until the mayor's term ends, with a salary of approximately €60,000. The new director will manage not only the Santa Maria della Scala but also the Museo Civico and the Museo dell'Acqua. The complex is still in transition, with nearly half of its 40,000 square meters awaiting restoration. The director must continue ongoing projects, such as the recovery of the internal street linked to the Via Francigena, and attract new funding. Candidates need at least five years of experience as a director of a major museum or equivalent experience in public administration or cultural promotion. Preference will be given to those familiar with Italian cultural heritage, especially Siena. The partnership with Opera Laboratori Fiorentini, the semi-concessionaire for all three sites, is a fixed point.
