Sanna Kannisto's Act of Flying Portfolio Released with Fieldwork Monograph

publication · 2026-04-22

Aperture Gallery presented a solo exhibition for Sanna Kannisto alongside the publication of her first major monograph Fieldwork in 2011. The Finnish artist has collaborated with biologists in Latin American rainforests since 1997, developing a unique visual research practice that challenges scientific and artistic conventions. Her work investigates truth in photography through staged depictions of flora and fauna. To mark this occasion, a limited-edition portfolio of three C-prints from her Act of Flying series was released. Each print measures 10 x 12 inches on 11 x 14 inch paper, with an edition of 25 plus two artist proofs. The portfolio includes Untitled 9, Untitled 13, and Untitled 23 from 2006, all signed and numbered by Kannisto. Born in Hämeenlinna, Finland in 1974, she earned a BA from Turku School of Art and Communication and an MA from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. Her photographs have been shown at institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland, and the Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki. She is represented by Gallery Taik in Berlin and Galerie la Ferronnerie in Paris, while living and working in Helsinki. The portfolio ships from New York within three to five days.
