Sanejouand's Tense Installations at Le Transpalette

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Jean-Michel Sanejouand's exhibition at Le Transpalette in Bourges, France, from May 31 to July 13, 2003, reanimates his 1968 'Organisation d'espace' originally shown at Musée Galliera. The installation features a horizontal orange crane element in the entrance and, in a taller second space, a horizontal barrier and a vertical piece wedged into corners. Thick translucent plastic lamellas separate the spaces, evoking the site's industrial past. Upstairs, a hybrid 'Charge-Objet' combines cubic plastic bladders with a half-wall mirror, referencing earlier works from Lund (1967) and Galerie Yvon Lambert (1968). Sanejouand's method relies on misappropriation and spatial tension, as seen in the dismantled crane and unnatural associations in his paintings. The exhibition reveals a latent conflict, tightening an already fraught situation. Additionally, a room at the Lieu Unique in Nantes is dedicated to Sanejouand from June 26 to September 21, 2003.
