Sandro Chia's Paper Works on View at Fondazione Biscozzi | Rimbaud in Lecce
The Fondazione Biscozzi | Rimbaud in Lecce presents 'Sandro Chia. I due pittori. Opere su carta 1989-2017', a survey of over one hundred works on paper by Sandro Chia, a founding member of the Transavanguardia movement theorized by critic Achille Bonito Oliva in the late 1970s. Curated by Lorenzo Madaro, the exhibition runs until June 15, 2025, and is supported by Galleria Mazzoli of Modena. The works trace Chia's metamorphic practice, oscillating between innovation and obsessive re-elaboration of art historical imagery. Themes include Pinocchio, anatomy, tragic irony, buffoonery, love, solitude, and melancholy, forming a visual and emotional inventory that bridges art history and human experience. The curator describes paper as a space of freedom for Chia, where he experiments with freshness and genius, constructing a dense imaginary of references, ironic evocations, and allegories. The exhibition is open on April 25 and May 1.
