Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection Celebrates 30 Years at Palazzo Strozzi

Palazzo Strozzi in Florence hosts 'Reaching for the Stars', a major exhibition marking thirty years of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection, one of Italy's most prominent contemporary art collections. Curated from over 70 works, the show traces the collection's evolution since 1992, when Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo acquired her first piece from Anish Kapoor. The exhibition is organized thematically across the Piano Nobile and the Strozzina basement spaces, featuring artists such as Maurizio Cattelan, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Paola Pivi, Lara Favaretto, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Mark Manders, Ragnar Kjartansson, William Kentridge, Fiona Tan, Douglas Gordon, and Philippe Parreno. A notable focus is on female artists, reflecting the collector's long-term commitment. The courtyard installation by Goshka Macuga, 'GONOGO', alludes to rocket launches and the tension between departure and stasis. The Strozzina section highlights video works, an unusual emphasis for Italian collections, with pieces like Kjartansson's 'The End – Rocky Mountains'. The exhibition extends beyond Palazzo Strozzi with conferences in Florence's libraries, a project by Katja Novitskova at Manifattura Tabacchi, and university collaborations, aiming to position the collection as an accessible, multidisciplinary platform.
