Sandra Vezza's Pop-Inspired Astemia Pentita Winery in Barolo Region
Sandra Vezza, entrepreneur and owner of Italgelatine and Gufram, has realized her dream of combining wine, design, and family heritage with the Astemia Pentita winery in the Langhe region of Piedmont. The winery, located on the Cannubi hill in Barolo, features an architectural design by Gianni Arnaudo that resembles a giant wine package, complete with a shop and tasting bar. Interior decor includes tap-like sofas, resin-covered raffia floors, and pieces from Gufram, TOILETPAPER, and Seletti, alongside Vezza's own bottle designs. The estate spans 17 hectares between Barolo and Monforte, producing 50,000-70,000 bottles annually, with plans to expand to 250,000 bottles within three years. The winery uses gravity-flow technology across three floors. Notable accolades include 97 points from Decanter for the Cannubi 2016 and three glasses from Gambero Rosso for the Barolo 2016. Vezza also founded the Radical Design Foundation, which supports local artists and writers, such as Emilio Ferro's light installation 'Barolo to Heaven.' Future projects for the foundation are anticipated.
