Sandra Lorenzi's 'Humor Melancholicus' at Galerie Martine et Thibault de La Châtre
Sandra Lorenzi, a 2009 Villa Arson graduate, presents her first solo exhibition 'Humor Melancholicus' at Galerie Martine et Thibault de La Châtre in Paris from November 8 to 30, 2013. The show explores the human condition between laughter and tears through diverse works. A bronze Jizo sculpture, described as an 'enfant d'Erik Dietman et de Giacometti,' greets visitors, recalling protective objects at Japanese temple entrances. Three display cases hold vintage postcards from World War I, with texts and images cut out in 'Collectio,' a conceptual work-in-progress. Fireplace andirons (Feuerhund) are welded together to form bicéphale sculptures, some duplicated in bronze, representing female busts—a counterpart to 'Collectio' evoking women at home during war. A recording of Pericles' funeral oration in Ancient Greek plays in the background. A candy dispenser, masked in white plexiglass and empty, emits a golden, twilight light. The exhibition ends with 'Bureau d'étude n° 2,' a digital frame showing stereotypical images of happiness, and a text by Lorenzi where a doctor admits helplessness.
