Sancintya Mohini Simpson Explores Inherited Trauma in Artes Mundi 11 Biennial

Sancintya Mohini Simpson is among six global artists participating in Artes Mundi 11, the premier biennial contemporary art award in the UK, scheduled from 24 October 2025 to 1 March 2026 throughout Wales. Her artistic practice delves into the inherited trauma of indenture, utilizing painting, video, and performance, while integrating elements of ritual, poetry, and matrilineal memory. Simpson notes that her artwork adapts within exhibition settings, employing diverse methods to convey narratives. Her past solo exhibitions include Milani Gallery (2022), Institute of Modern Art Belltower (2020), and 1ShanthiRoad Studio Gallery (2019). Additionally, her work will be showcased in 'And Still I Rise' at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Artes Mundi 11 will feature individual presentations at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, and Mostyn, highlighting themes of displacement and memory.
