San Sebastián and Wroclaw named 2016 European Capitals of Culture with major art exhibitions

In 2016, San Sebastián in Spain and Wroclaw in Poland's Silesia region will be recognized as European Capitals of Culture, succeeding Mons, Belgium, and Pilsen, Czech Republic. Both cities are set to present year-long cultural initiatives that encompass a wide range of topics, from culinary arts to technology and visual arts. San Sebastián will showcase its main visual arts exhibition, 'Peace Treaties: 1516-2016,' from 17 June to 2 October 2016, featuring around 300 pieces from notable artists such as Francisco Goya, Pablo Picasso, and Le Corbusier. This exhibition will include publications and discussions addressing five centuries of conflict and harmony in art. Wroclaw's program, curated by Michal Bieniek, will cover eight areas, including an exhibition titled 'Wroclaw's Europe' from 20 September to 31 December 2016.
