San Marino's Hospitality Lab at Venice Architecture Biennale
The Republic of San Marino's pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, titled 'The Hospitality Lab,' explores hospitality as a relational exercise through installations and community interactions. Located in the Castello district, the pavilion engages with local Venetians. Bronze sculptures by Vittorio Corsini (born 1956 in Cecina) at the entrance invite public use. A plexiglass cube emits light at a slow breathing pace for meditation. The video installation 'Benvenuti in città' features three youths from Peccioli interpreting wind through movement. Modular objects serve as seating and tables for a workshop collecting design ideas from wood design students. The sound installation 'Rituali di ospitalità' uses glasses to represent encounters with the Castello community, supported by ethnographic research by FR Istituto d'Arte Contemporanea. Interviews covered conviviality, alterity, and conflict with mass tourism. Future events will involve local artisans.
