San Marino Opens New Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

exhibition · 2026-05-04

On July 7, San Marino will unveil its new Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Logge dei Volontari, a renovated building dating back to the late 1930s. This museum houses almost 1,000 artworks collected or donated since the San Marino Art Biennales from 1956 to 1967, featuring notable artists like Renato Guttuso, Emilio Vedova, and Sandro Chia. Previously, these pieces were either stored away or placed in offices, but thanks to the State Museums Center, they’ve been cataloged and restored. The exhibition is divided into four sections, focusing on contemporary art from the 1930s up to now, especially highlighting San Marino's contributions. Marco Podeschi mentioned that this project resulted from collaboration across various cultural entities.
