San Francisco Photographer Iryna Gorb Detained by ICE at Airport

On Wednesday, ICE agents apprehended 38-year-old Ukrainian photographer Iryna Gorb at San Francisco International Airport following her arrival from Portland. Footage depicts Gorb, who has spent 16 years in the U.S. as a fashion and portrait photographer, pleading for assistance as she was taken into custody. Currently, she is being held at the California City Detention Facility in Kern County. Authorities allege that she has overstayed her visa by 15 years, having entered the U.S. in 2010 on a visa that lapsed in 2011. The Department of Homeland Security labels her an "illegal alien" who resisted arrest. Local backlash ensued, with California State Senator Scott Wiener condemning the deportation effort to a war zone. A GoFundMe campaign has raised $47,003, exceeding its $25,000 target, to fund her legal defense. Gorb's parents relocated to Slovakia after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. She pursued photography studies in Boston and worked in Chelsea, New York, before moving to San Francisco.
