San Francisco Opera Extends General Director Matthew Shilvock's Contract Through 2030-31

The Board of Directors at San Francisco Opera has granted General Director Matthew Shilvock a five-year contract extension, effective from August 1, 2026, ensuring his leadership through the 2030–31 season. Board President Jack Calhoun commended Shilvock for his exceptional leadership, particularly in delivering high-quality artistry, managing financial challenges, and fostering donor connections. Shilvock expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to continue with the company, emphasizing its innovative spirit and adoption of new technologies. Since becoming the seventh general director in August 2016, he has overseen ten seasons, introducing works like 'The Monkey King' and 'El último sueño de Frida y Diego.' The company also commissioned eight new pieces and successfully navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, with a notable drive-in performance of 'The Barber of Seville.' The 104th season is set to commence on September 12, 2026, featuring Verdi's 'Simon Boccanegra.'
