Samuel Rousseau's Multidisciplinary Art at La Galerie Grenoble

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Samuel Rousseau, known as Sam, presented a solo exhibition at La Galerie – École supérieure d'art in Grenoble from March 5 to April 5, 2002. The artist, a former DJ and co-founder of the self-managed association Brise Glace, transforms industrial spaces into alternative venues. His work combines rudimentary materials with video technology, creating environments that invite viewer interaction. In the exhibition, a video wallpaper of swirling flowers adorned a salon corner, while a plastic bin held humorous monobandes for visitors to watch. Rousseau also displayed works on vintage embroidered canvases from flea markets, inserting video images into holes cut in the fabric. Other pieces included a chrome-plated shovel and a sculpture of a frogman trapped in a cluster of water bottles. His practice, influenced by Fluxus, focuses on détournement and poetic reinterpretation of everyday objects, rejecting categorization.
