SAMRO opens permanent sticker art museum in Havana after Biennale debut

The 15th Havana Biennale is set to take place from November 15, 2024, to February 28, 2025, and will feature the inaugural appearance of the Sticker Art Museum Rome (SAMRO), marking the first official inclusion of sticker art at a major art event. Founded in 2022 by artists PinoVolpino and Stelleconfuse, SAMRO started in a decommissioned phone booth in Rome and is now situated at MAAM – Museo dell'Altro e dell'Altrove di Metropoliz. Invited by Professor Claudio Sotolongo, they sought sticker contributions through social media, receiving submissions from over 250 artists across 35 countries in just three months. They brought 15 kg of stickers to Havana for a temporary exhibition, which was quickly dismantled, but a permanent space was later established at Taller de Serigrafía René Portocarrero, in partnership with students from the Universidad de La Habana. This project aimed to promote sticker art as a vital cultural expression, aligning with the Biennale's theme, 'Horizontes Compartidos.'
