Sami Hayek's 'Frequency' Exhibition Debuts in Dubai During Design Week

Christie's Middle East presents 'Sami Hayek: Frequency', a selling exhibition from Christie's Private Sales, marking the first Middle East showcase for Mexican multi-disciplinary artist Sami Hayek. The exhibition runs from 4 to 14 November 2024 at Christie's in DIFC, Dubai, coinciding with Dubai Design Week 2024. Over twenty unique pieces are on view, including furniture, sculpture, and art installations that explore how objects hold and radiate intentions. The series debuted at Christie's Los Angeles in 2023. Materials such as volcanic rock, marble, anodized aluminum, glass beads, and precious woods are used, combining machine precision with artisan hand-tooling. A centerpiece is the 'Dubai Credenza', designed specifically for the exhibition, inspired by Dubai's energy and the hummingbird's high-frequency wings, reflecting Hayek's Mexican roots. The interactive artworks invite viewers to touch and spin them. Notable pieces include 'Maya Frequency 2' (iceberg blue marble, ceramic, suede, volcanic rock), 'Mini Wing' side tables with secret compartments, the 'Collectors Table' (a collaboration with jeweler Daniela Villegas), and the 'Feather Table' seating twelve. Hayek's practice is rooted in the dialogue between materials, proportions, and positivity. Meagan Kelly Horsman, Managing Director of Christie's Middle East, expressed honor in representing Hayek.
