Samdani Art Award 2018 Shortlist Announced

The Samdani Art Foundation has revealed the finalists for its fourth Samdani Art Award, which supports emerging Bangladeshi artists aged 22 to 40. Eleven artists have been chosen to create new works for an exhibition at the Dhaka Art Summit, happening from February 2 to 10, 2018, with Simon Castets from the Swiss Institute in New York as the guest curator. The award will be presented by Tate's director, Maria Balshaw, and a panel of artists including Sheela Gowda, Runa Islam, Subodh Gupta, and Mona Hatoum will pick the winner. The winner will receive a three-month residency at the Delfina Foundation in London. Castets noted that curating this exhibition was particularly challenging due to the remarkable quality of the submissions. The finalists are Ahmed Rasel, Aprita Singh Lopa, Asfika Rahman, Debasish Shom, Marzia Farhana, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Opper Zaman, Palash Bhattacharjee, Rakib Ahmed, Reetu Sattar, and Sabbir Alam.
