Sam Thorne Appointed Artistic Director at Tate St Ives

Sam Thorne will assume the role of artistic director at Tate St Ives in spring 2014. Currently serving as associate editor at Frieze Magazine, Thorne co-founded Open School East, a tuition-free art school located in East London. His appointment coincides with a significant expansion and renovation project that will nearly double the gallery's exhibition space. Mark Osterfield, executive director of Tate St Ives, praised Thorne's blend of enthusiasm for contemporary art and engagement with modernist histories. Osterfield noted that Thorne's thoughtful and energetic approach will advance an ambitious, globally recognized exhibition program within Cornwall's distinctive setting. The gallery's transformation is set to enhance its capacity and programming scope.
