Salvo Retrospective at Pinacoteca Agnelli Explores Time and Light

The Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin presents 'Arrivare in tempo', the largest retrospective ever dedicated to Salvo (Salvatore Mangione, 1947–2015). Curated by Sarah Cosulich and Lucrezia Calabrò Visconti, the exhibition traces the Sicilian-born artist's career from his conceptual beginnings to his figurative maturity, with a focus on light and time. Born in Leonforte in 1947, Salvo moved to Turin at age nine and fully embraced the city. The show features over 70 works, including early self-portraits (Autoritratto come Raffaello, 1970) and large-scale paintings like San Giorgio il drago and San Michele (1973), which reference Paolo Uccello and Raphael. The exhibition also highlights Salvo's series of stone plaques inscribed with poetic mottos, his night bar scenes, urban landscapes, and Mediterranean light. A special section juxtaposes his works with pieces from the Agnelli collection, culminating in a rooftop encounter with natural light. The show follows a smaller 2022 exhibition 'Autoritratto come Salvo' at MACRO Rome under Luca Lo Pinto.
