Salvatore Arancio's Oh Mexico! at Kunsthalle Winterthur
Salvatore Arancio's exhibition Oh Mexico! at Kunsthalle Winterthur runs until July 17, 2016. The show was inspired by the artist's 2015 trip to Mexico to visit the Giant Crystals in the Naica mine, which has been closed since 2009. Unable to enter, Arancio created the installation These Crystals Are Just like Globes of Light, featuring over thirty ceramic works. The exhibition also includes the video El Mago (2015), filmed inside a cave with varied lighting, and Danza de los Voladores, exploring an ancient Mexican fertility ritual. The works are described as 'a set of forms, objects, sounds and images that serve as ciphers to get to know an unknown or hidden secret.'
