Salvatore Arancio and Carlo e Fabio Ingrassia Exhibitions at Castelbuono

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Museo Civico di Castelbuono, a small museum in the Sicilian town of 9,000 inhabitants in the Madonie Park, is undergoing growth under new director Laura Barreca. Despite limited budgets, the museum produces lean contemporary art programs with micro-networks of sponsors and collaborators. Two concurrent exhibitions are on view at the Castello dei Ventimiglia. Salvatore Arancio's solo show 'Travelling circular labyrinths,' curated by Luca Cerizza, features a video titled 'Cathedral' (2014) filmed on the Scottish island of Staffa, depicting Fingal's Cave with low-fi imagery and noise sounds. The installation 'Loblolly Jack Gray Knobcone' presents rows of pine cones transformed into iridescent, oversize ceramic bodies, realized by local master ceramists. Arancio also displays landscape engravings from the 19th-century volume 'Wonders of the Volcano' by Ascott R. Hope. Carlo e Fabio Ingrassia's solo exhibition 'Solo la terra resiste alla terra,' curated by Barreca and Valentina Bruschi, includes the work 'Rinunciare all’idea di un altro mondo' (1669), an objet-trouvé made of magma from Mount Etna's 1669 eruption, protected by a corrugated glass sheet. Both shows run until October 3, 2016.
