Salt Beyoğlu Hosts Comprehensive Handan Börüteçene Exhibition
The exhibition 'In the Realm of Three Inland Seas' at Salt Beyoğlu showcases the extensive work of Handan Börüteçene, emphasizing themes of archaeology, history, and nature. Open from November 7, 2023, to April 14, 2024, it includes her early pieces, the installation 'Kır/Gör [Break/See]' (1985), a terracotta series from 1987, and large sculptures. Börüteçene, influenced by her father's archaeology texts and her mother's embroidery, studied ceramics at Istanbul's State Academy of Fine Arts and engaged in archaeological digs. Her debut solo show took place in Paris, and she explored cultural continuity in works such as 'Mutfak Ordusu' (1984) and 'Yeryüzünün Belleği' (1995). The exhibition, curated by Amira Akbıyıkoğlu, highlights the neglect of Turkey's cultural heritage.
