Salone del Mobile 2018 unveils a new Manifesto and Carlo Ratti installation

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The Salone del Mobile.Milano, the largest international furniture fair, has adopted a Manifesto for its 57th edition in April 2018. Presented at a press conference in February 2018 by Beppe Sala, Mayor of Milan, and Carlo Luti, President of the Salone del Mobile, the Manifesto outlines eight core values: Impresa, Qualità, Progetto, Sistema, Giovani, Comunicazione, Cultura, Milano Al Centro. It aims to elevate the fair beyond a commercial event into a hub for innovation and cohesion within Milan's design system. A key concrete initiative is a sustainability-themed installation by architect Carlo Ratti, set to run from April 17 to 29 in Piazza del Duomo, exploring the relationship between nature and living. This installation, aligned with the 2019 International Exposition, also seeks to blur the boundary between the Salone and the Fuorisalone by bringing institutional fair elements into the city. The fair expects over 300,000 international visitors and more than 2,000 exhibitors.
