Salone del Libro di Torino 2023: Attraverso lo specchio

The 35th Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino, themed "Attraverso lo specchio" (Through the Looking-Glass), is scheduled for May 18 to 22 at Lingotto. This theme honors Lewis Carroll and his Alice series, encouraging attendees to journey through the mirror into the realm of imagination found in literature. The event showcases a diverse lineup of international authors, including Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Aleksievič, Paul B. Preciado, Scott Spencer, Peter Cameron, Julian Barnes, Chiara Valerio, Javier Cercas, and Brigitte Vasallo. However, the fair is criticized for its lack of a unified focus, with numerous events that do not promote meaningful discussions. Various special initiatives such as Rights Centre and Premio Mondello provide additional activities for children, teens, publishers, and aspiring writers. This year also marks the conclusion of Nicola Lagioia's directorship, with Annalena Benini set to succeed him.
