Salon des Beaux-Arts 2026: 162 Years of Encounters at the Orangerie du Sénat

The Salon des Beaux-Arts, a Parisian art institution since 1864, returns for its 2026 edition, emphasizing the irreplaceable value of in-person encounters in an age of rapid image circulation. The exhibition, held at the Orangerie du Sénat (19 bis rue de Vaugirard, 75006), runs from September 18 to 22 for sections including Jeune Création, Peinture, Sculpture, Textile, and Thema, and from September 24 to 29 for Midships, Naturaliste, Papier Papiers, Photographie, and Sculpture, with free entry. The 2026 edition is themed around 'ichigo ichie,' the Japanese concept of a unique, unrepeatable moment. Highlights include a paper banquet inspired by Alice in Wonderland by Aline HD, winner of the Prix Puvis de Chavannes 2026; Philippine Laureau's works combining coffee sack textures with painting; Karine N'Guyen Van Tham's textile sculptures evoking memory; and Dominique Jaussein's sculptural treatment of photographed bodies. The Midships section, under the patronage of Ewan Lebourdais, Peintre officiel de la Marine, presents images from the Jeanne d'Arc mission by officer-cadets of the French Navy. A tribute to Slovenian painter Ivana Kobilca, who exhibited at the Salon in 1891, is supported by the Slovenian Embassy, underscoring the Salon's historical role as a haven for women artists. The event is free and open to the public, with hours from 11am to 7pm (until 6pm on final days).
