Sally Tallant Appointed Director of Queens Museum Following Controversial Departure
Sally Tallant will become director of the Queens Museum in New York during Spring 2019. She currently leads the Liverpool Biennial, a position she has held since 2011. Her appointment follows Laura Raicovich's controversial departure earlier this year due to political disagreements with the museum's board. At the Queens Museum, Tallant will manage exhibition programming alongside extensive educational initiatives and community projects. These include multilingual outreach and adult immigrant education programs. Before joining Liverpool Biennial, she worked as a curator at London's Hayward Gallery from 1999 to 2001. She then served as head of programs at The Serpentine Gallery from 2001 until 2011. Under her leadership, the Liverpool Biennial presented four editions, including Beautiful World, Where Are You? which concluded in October 2018. Queens Museum board chairman Mark J. Coleman praised Tallant's local and global arts experience as ideal for leading the institution and serving Queens' international community.
