Sally Rooney to Publish Hebrew Translation of 'Intermezzo' with Pro-Palestinian Israeli Publisher

Irish author Sally Rooney will release the Hebrew translation of her latest novel 'Intermezzo' through November Books, an independent Israeli publisher that supports Palestinian rights. Rooney, a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, previously refused to sell Hebrew translation rights for 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' to a government-funded Israeli publisher in 2021. November Books is the only Israeli publisher meeting BDS conditions: it does not operate in illegal Israeli settlements, receives no Israeli government funding, and explicitly recognizes Palestinian rights. November Books director Ishai Menuchin stated that publishing authors associated with BDS shows Israeli readers that opposition to occupation, apartheid, and genocide is the basis of the boycott—a legitimate form of political protest. Rooney has also financially supported Palestine Action, a pro-Palestinian organization recently outlawed by the UK government under anti-terrorism laws. 'Intermezzo' is Rooney's fourth novel, following 'Conversations with Friends' (2017), 'Normal People' (2018), and 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' (2021); the first two were adapted into television series.
