Salão Paranaense Opens Submissions for 67th Edition with New Diversity Criteria
The Salão Paranaense de Arte Contemporânea is accepting submissions from Brazilian artists until October 25 for its 67th edition. Thirty works will be awarded R$ 5,000 each and will join the collection of the Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Paraná (MAC-PR). The museum's director, Ana Rocha, notes that the prize historically formed the institution's core collection, with 366 of its 1,810 works originating from past salons. A recent historical review for the museum's 50th anniversary revealed a predominance of white male artists in the collection, prompting changes. The judging committee has altered evaluation criteria to now consider a work's contribution to collection diversity alongside originality and artistic quality. For the first time, the salon will accept poetic-critical texts on the theme 'poetics and politics of reparation' and will include categories for digital art, web art, and urban interventions. The opening exhibition has been moved to early 2021 and will be held at the Museu Oscar Niemeyer (MON) due to renovations at the MAC-PR's main building.
