Chinese automaker SAIC Motor plans to build its first European Union car factory in Spain's northwestern region of Galicia, with an initial investment of approximately €200 million ($232 million). The project, which includes a logistics hub, has been granted strategic priority by Galicia's regional government. Construction is expected to start next year and the plant could become operational by 2028, pending central government approval for foreign direct investment. The facility, located in the port of Ferrol, is projected to create about 1,000 direct jobs and additional indirect employment, using many locally produced components.
