Sagrada Familia unveils 12-point star atop Tower of the Virgin Mary
On December 8, 2021, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Barcelona illuminated a new 12-point star atop the Tower of the Virgin Mary of the Sagrada Familia. The star, measuring over 7 meters in diameter and weighing 5.5 tons, marks a significant milestone toward completing Antoni Gaudí's unfinished basilica, which has been under construction since 1882. Despite pandemic-related delays, completion is expected by 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death. The star is intended as a new symbol of hope for the city. The Consell Gaudí released two videos: one showcasing Gaudí's works across Catalonia with a 14th-century musical piece from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, and another documenting the inauguration mass, blessing, and first lighting of the tower.
