Safdie Architects Completes Crystal Bridges Expansion in Arkansas
The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, is set to launch a major expansion on June 6–7, 2026, adding 114,000 square feet of space. Designed by Safdie Architects, this new area will feature additional galleries, educational facilities, and improved outdoor connections. Highlights include a figure-eight design, a new northern entrance, and several pavilions. The structure will use southern yellow pine glulam beams and copper cladding, along with eco-friendly components like high-performance glazing and LED lighting. Among the new spaces, there will be two galleries totaling approximately 29,000 square feet, including a 14,000-square-foot area for temporary exhibits. The opening show will be Keith Haring in 3D, and a Learning and Engagement Hub will provide classrooms and studios. Additionally, around 600 artworks from the museum’s collection will be reinstalled.
