architecture-design · 2026-06-01

The Schools of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco have opened a 66,000-square-foot student wellness center designed by EHDD. The four-story urban building integrates a pool, gym, rooftop turf field, and flexible learning spaces for K-12 students. Organized around three programmatic zones—pool, gym, and training areas—the façade alternates solid and transparent elements to create rhythm and movement along Geary Boulevard. A central glazed strip reveals shared activities, reinforcing wellness as a collective experience. The center aims for LEED Gold certification and accommodates over 500 people in its gymnasium. The project emphasizes transparency to connect school life with the city, balancing structure and openness.
