Sabrina Casadei's Norwegian Landscapes at AlbumArte in Rome

Sabrina Casadei, a Roman artist born in 1985, presents her first solo exhibition in Rome at AlbumArte, featuring works created during a residency in Norway. Selected from 1,300 candidates for a two-month residency at NKD – Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dalsasen in Dale, near Bergen, Casadei's paintings depict solitary, vast mountainous landscapes that evoke the natural spaces of the far north. The exhibition, titled 'Residenze #2 – Sabrina Casadei – A Thousand Miles Away' and curated by Paola Ugolini, runs until January 31, 2017, at AlbumArte, Via Flaminia 122, Rome. Casadei's approach challenges the concept of en plein air, pushing toward abstraction and close-up views that sometimes resemble holding earth in one's hand. However, the palette's acidic and shrill tones occasionally prevent the work from achieving the necessary gravitas.
