Saatchi Gallery's 'Textile Art Redefined' Showcases 15 Artists Through May 10

The Saatchi Gallery in London is hosting 'Textile Art Redefined,' a group exhibition curated by Helen Adams, the founder of Textile Curator, until May 10. This showcase features 15 contemporary artists who utilize fiber and fabric as their main artistic mediums, challenging the conventional view that relegates textiles to mere craft or utility. The exhibition reflects a historical evolution that began in the mid-20th century, influenced by pioneers such as Anni Albers, who taught at both the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College, impacting artists like Sheila Hicks and Magdalena Abakanowicz. Notable works include Ian Berry's 'Secret Garden,' crafted from recycled denim, and Kenny Nguyen's colorful silk wall piece. Other contributors are Chiachio & Giannone, Kaffe Fassett, Anne von Freyburg, and more. The exhibition highlights a resurgence of appreciation for handmade art in a digital age, featuring vibrant colors and diverse material techniques. Helen Adams has also released 'Textile Fine Art' through Laurence King.
