Sā Ladakh Biennale: World's Highest Art Biennale Debuts in Indian Himalayas

Scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, 2026, the first Sā Ladakh Biennale, which derives its name from the Ladakhi term for 'soil', will be hosted at eight locations along the Leh-Kargil corridor in Ladakh, India. Curated by Vishal K Dar alongside associate curator Tsering Motup Siddho, the event, titled 'Signals from Another Star', will showcase artists from Ladakh and around the globe, emphasizing themes of land, memory, ecology, and the urgency of climate issues. Recognized as the highest regenerative art biennale at over 3,000 meters, it prioritizes community involvement and sustainable practices. Notable projects include 'raising flags', initiated in 2024 with a museum in Vienna. Contributions will feature works from Anna Jermolaewa, Grazia Toderi, Peter Kogler, Jitish Kallat, Agnieszka Kurant, and Skarma Sonam Tashi, addressing the tension between regeneration and greenwashing in light of Ladakh's environmental struggles.
