Ryôta Nakano's film 'Foto di famiglia' tells true story of photographer who saved 60,000 photos after 2011 tsunami
Japanese director Ryôta Nakano's film 'Foto di famiglia' (Family Photo), based on the true story of photographer Masashi Asada, will be released in Italian cinemas on October 19 by Officine UBU. The screenplay draws from Asada's two photo albums: one depicting each family member in their dream job, and another documenting his volunteer work recovering photos scattered by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. After the disaster, Asada shifted from being a photographer to a rescuer of others' memories, cleaning and returning over 60,000 photos in just a few months. The film blends humor and drama, starting as a comedy before the tragedy unfolds. Nakano, who experienced the earthquake from Tokyo, initially struggled to find the right approach but was inspired by Asada's album 'Asadake!'. The film has moved over a million viewers in Japan.
