RY+P Architects Adds Lightweight Pavilions to Chongqing Rooftop Teahouse
RY+P architects has completed a rooftop teahouse pavilion project in Chongqing's historic Mountain Alley, transforming a small rooftop space along steep stone steps into a public gathering place. The design inserts two lightweight pavilions and a pink bar installation, adding a subtle contemporary layer while preserving the historic alley's atmosphere. Instead of leaving the rooftop open, the volumes create a gentle sense of enclosure, framing views of the surrounding city and shaping zones for sitting, resting, and wandering. The 120 m² project was completed in 2025, with lead architect Yang Ren and design team Wei Liu, Zheng Tan, and Sen Tong. Photographs by Hongming Liu.
