Rwandan Film 'Ben'imana' on Genocide Scars Premieres at Cannes

Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo's debut feature 'Ben'imana' premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Set in 2012, the film follows Vénéranda, a Tutsi genocide survivor, and her daughter Tina as Rwandan communities attempt reconciliation through traditional Gacaca courts. The Rwandan director explores the challenge of living alongside former neighbors, friends, and family after the genocide created deep communal divides. Dusabejambo was the cultural guest of the day on RFI.
