institutional · 2026-04-20

The Ruya Foundation has introduced Ruya Maps, a non-profit organization aimed at supporting artists from regions experiencing social or political challenges. This project will feature international exhibitions along with various activities like artist commissions, workshops, discussions, and collaborations with local partners. Tamara Chalabi, who is a cofounder of the Ruya Foundation and oversees the Maps program, highlighted that the goal is to create opportunities for artists who face barriers in the global art world due to political, economic, or geographical factors. The inaugural exhibition will present Venezuelan artist Pepe López at the Fitzrovia Chapel in London from October 14 to October 26, with the full 2019 program set to be announced this fall. The Ruya Foundation is well-known for its role in curating the Iraqi pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
