Ruy Ohtake's Architecture and Design Exhibitions Open Simultaneously in São Paulo

Two exhibitions showcasing the work of Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake opened this week in São Paulo. 'Ruy Ohtake: O Design da Forma' at Instituto Tomie Ohtake, curated by Fábio Magalhães, Marili Brandão, and Priscyla Gomes, focuses on furniture, objects, and finishing materials. Concurrently, 'Ruy Ohtake: A Produção do Espaço' at Museu da Casa Brasileira, curated by Aginaldo Farias, presents around 40 architectural projects. Ohtake, with nearly 60 years of career, is renowned for projects like the Hotel Unique, the Brazilian Embassy in Tokyo, and the Instituto Tomie Ohtake building itself. The exhibitions highlight his conception of architecture's role for contemporary humanity, its impact on urban spaces, and his meticulous investigation of materials. The design show runs from February 25 to April 14, while the architecture exhibition is on view from February 26 to May 19. Accompanying events include concrete workshops at the museum and a wood design lab at Oficina Lab. A book titled 'Ruy Ohtake, o Arquiteto,' organized by Abilio Guerra and Silvana Romano, is also slated for release.
