exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) in Britain, an open-air gallery spanning 500 hectares with works by Ai Weiwei, Anthony Caro, David Nash, and Giuseppe Penone, is hosting two artists' projects focused on childhood in its Longside Gallery from July 13 to November 3. Scottish artist Ruth Ewan presents 'Asking Out,' a participatory artwork recreating a 1972 Castleford classroom that revives teacher Muriel Pyrah's alternative educational method encouraging interaction and expression, developed with Pyrah's former students. Colombian artist Oscar Murillo, recent Turner Prize winner, shows 'Frequencies,' a project begun in 2013 in his Colombian hometown where students of various ages marked their presence on large white canvases attached to school desks over six months. At YSP, 80 canvases created with local pupils are displayed; the project has been exhibited in 31 countries and has an archive of over 15,000 pieces.
